Approving a Defense

Once a defense has been submitted, it is reviewed by college's Assistant Director of Graduate Academic Affairs.

  • If everything is in order, the director will move the defense status to "Scheduled" and the defense will appear on the list of upcoming defenses. The departmental contact for defenses will receive an email once the defense has been scheduled. It is a best practice to check the information again at that time to be sure that it is correct. This is the information that will appear in the Convocation and Commencement programs.
  • If there are any problems with the defense as submitted, the assistant director will send the proposal back with comments. The departmental contact for defenses will receive an email that the defense has been returned. The problems should be corrected and the defense resubmitted.
